Net TV - Loading Other APPs
How do I load other Apps into my 7000 series (40PFL7705) TV. Like HULU or TUMTIKI or Local TV Stations?

Hi,
you can only add Apps which are offered via the Net TV portal...

Why?
Two questions:
a) why is that so? Why are we limited to "Philips-approved and integrated into their portal"-Apps?
b) will this change? Is the current NetTV equal to SmartTv, or will there be a completely new firmware soon,
as the SmartTv page suggests?

Jettester is an American user.
TV’s in the USA (like 40PFL7705D/F7) do not have Net TV access and will not get the Smart upgrade (if or when-ever that is coming).
I do not know if the USA models have an internet browser, do they?
For European Net TV models: Yes, you can add Apps!
Put the URL of the App in the open-internet browser and access them.
It will only work if the App is programmed in a CE-HTML compatible format.
Mind to mark the URL as favorite if you want to keep them.Last edited by Corneel; 12-06-2011 at 09:00 AM.

Use the website HBBIG.COM and explore all the Apps on this site.
Via the "options button" check the "Security information" you can read the URL.
Some URL’s are very long. In that case type the URL on your PC in a URL shortener program.
Then give the short URL into your open internet browser on the TV.
Perhaps we can start a post on this forum and share experiences on working URL’s

I'm not aware of the country specific differences, but I can tell you what I do:
- I open the home menu and select NetTV.
- Then there is a screen with several apps. On the top right, there is one called "Internet".
- If I start that, I can enter any URL, which is available on the public internet.
You are even able to open "normal" internet pages, but they won't have such a good user experience as the ones, which are created with CE-HTML for TVs.
You can try hbbig.com as a starting point for searching other apps. But not all listed are "good" (made for Philips TV / implement the CE-HMTL standard). But some are working very fine.

Hbbig
Tried HBBIG yesterday evening for some time. Experience is mixed. Some links worked, some did not. Some very reluctantly. As often, the WLAN connection broke and I had to switch the TV off and on. The return button seems to work differently for each app. More often than not, I ended in the NetTV home screen, had to select "Internet", had to click on the HBBTV bookmark, had to scroll from the beginning. I do not see that it is possible to transfer an app from HBBIG to the NetTV apps, for a faster access.
I have a bluetooth connected keyboard. Keys that I typed appeared in the text field or not, sometimes only after many seconds. You never knew if the keystroke was delayed or ignored. If I typed again, then several seconds later I had 2 characters sometimes.
On the positive side, I could for example watch several videos from "Welt der Wunder". It worked, but to get there was often painful. A large proportion of the time I was watching the busy indicator on the bottom of the screen, the blue circles that go left and right. You never see a progress indicator, if you look at a black or white screen, you never know if this was it, or if you shall wait longer. Of course you never see an error message, not to speak of a sensible error message. It works, or it fails, or you give up.
It is like my smartphone: You get an idea how nice it would be if it worked. We are guinea pigs or pioneers.
