HTSD3510_12.bin & HTSD3510_98.bin are exactly the same, so it could well be matching filenames.

Either work and not work.
Not working, no issues.
If the 12.bin works, it will change your region code of your player meaning you can then only read Europe disc (Region 2 disc).

right,
if copying those 2 _98 bin files into the USB root directory doesnt work, then moderators better further test/ escalate this issue.

@kwinnie, bradford.
The files are exact duplicate regardless of filename The region code setting is stored in two places. any idea which _xx is for what region or region-free?

_12 is for region 2 (europe)
_98 is for region 3 (Apac)
no region free as illegal for these dvd/ blu-ray manufacturers.

This forum is about Home cinema 5.1.It doesn't mater what version.I have the HTS5543/12 system and in this site there is the very type i bought with the software update.But today is no more there,philips realized that they has messed up and playing with customers with that non-working update software and has decided to removed it entirely with shame!

ha ha ha! that's how it is done. upgrade works as follows:
go to setup, look for version, check filename for _xx. use an upgrade file of the same _xx in root of USB. plug in and it will run as upgrade. Takes quite a while, so best to have stable power because an interruption will screw your player. nervous, nervous, nervous....
in theory, you can change to any region by renaming the _xx to your _yy and upgrade.
When I have time, i'll reverse the assembly code to see if region-free can be made (coding stored in 2 addresses). folks having time could try out all files to see if a region-free exist. CAUTION: I have NOT tried using different files for my player (not using DVD in other region yet) so it is a risk that your player may be screwed up - ONLY FOR BRAVE (FOOLISH) folks to try and report back. DON'T BLAME ME for the idea, you are on your own. happy playing different region disc if it works.
