Philips Songbird Crashes Every time

I use a Phillips songbirds. I'm trying to use it.
The problem I have at all times. Since I bought the player (Philips gogear sa2mus08s/02 vn2b10450033019)
I download music, pictures etc. in the normal songbird.
If I not connect player Philips songbird not crashed.
I need to update my player! And there a lot of function for the player in Philips Songbird.

I too have the same problem. Songbird has always worked for the last 12 months but the newer version (1.9.0) I had to download in order to update my player crashes as soon as the USB connection is made.
When the player is recognised on the left of the screen, the eggtimer cursor shows and the title of the application shows "Not Responding". I have to use Ctl/Alt/Del to close it down. This is consistent using another Raga player and also an earlier version of Songbird. The very early version works fine if re-installed.
I can use Windows Explorer to transfer files (much easier and better anyway) but because the player firmware is embedded in Songbird I can not update my players (I have two).
Unless there is another way to upgrade the firmware without using Songbird?

Update: It sort of works on my old laptop running the same version of Windows XP, however it behaves differently each time I use it.
It crashes halfway through ripping a cd (to be fair it's slow on my laptop).
It says no updates available for my player, then the next time it says there are and starts upgrading the firmware but crashes halfway through the process. Oh well, I'll keep trying and just use Songbird for the firmware updates.
