    Unhappy 8FF3FPB/05 Digital photo frame

    Model: 8FF3FBP/05
    Firmware: 00041 BL010

I've had this photo frame for several years and it's still going strong. Everything works as expected except for the date setting function.

For some reason, the firmware does not allow me to set a date after 31/12/15. If I attempt to set it to today's date, 17/03/17, the date reverts to the default power on date (01/01/08).

I've checked the support site and there are no firmware updates for this product.

It seems very odd that the calendar function has been limited in this way... as though it was done intentionally by the developers. I work in software development and there is no obvious reason why the date should fail at the end of 2015.

Unless you have a fix for this, I would like to make a formal complaint, so please advise to whom this should be directed.

    Thanks

    Hello raichea,

Welcome to the Philips Support forum, it’s good to have you here with us. Also, we are glad to hear that you have enjoyed the photo frame for several years. Did this issue occur from one day to the next?
Have you tried to set another date? Also, please let us know if you have tried to disconnect the power supply from the photo frame for 5 minutes or longer?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Have a lovely day.

    Kind regards,
    Philips - Christoffer

The issue arose as soon as 2016 started... Normally, the photo frame is switched on all the time and I rarely check the date or time. Some time last year, I attempted to set the date after the frame had been switched off for some reason and found I couldn't set a date after 31 Dec 2015. I never got around to looking for a fix on the Philips site. More recently, the frame has been switched off for a few weeks due to some work on our house.

When I reinstated it, again it was impossible to set the correct date. This time, I checked the Philips website for new firmware or another fix, but there's nothing available as far as I can see.

    To answer your questions:

"Did this issue occur from one day to the next?"
This is a hard error, you can set any date from 01/01/08 to 31/12/15. Any date after 31/12/15 is not retained by the frame.

"Have you tried to set another date?"
Yes... as above any date after 31/12/15 is rejected

"Also, please let us know if you have tried to disconnect the power supply from the photo frame for 5 minutes or longer?"
    Yes. This makes no difference.

In which case, would you please answer the question in my original post:

This product is not working as advertised - there was no indication that the calendar would stop functioning after such a short time. This was not an inexpensive item (approx £90) so I believe I have a case under the Sale of Goods Act.

    Regards, Steve
