BDP2500 - brief screen blanking?

I'm getting occasional 2 second screen blanking when watching anything (DVD or Bluray discs) on my BDP2500.

It's just the picture that disappears - audio continues just fine. It's totally random - sometimes I can watch a whole movie with no blanks, other times (even on the same disc) it may happen at multiple times.

I've got the latest firmware, and I've checked (and changed) the HDMI cable.

Anyone else having any similar problems?

Hi,

does your TV have the newest firmware? If your TV has multiple HDMI inputs try another one. Or try to use another calbe for testing purposes.

It seems to me that this is some kind of HDMI handshake problem.

I have the BDP3005/5 which does exactly the same thing. At first I though it was bad discs, but eventually tracked it down to electrical interference. Whenever a light switch is turned on, kettle boiled, irons plugged in, shower starts, etc whilst watching a movie you will experience this issue. I have tried surge protectors but with no joy. I even tried it in a friends house and the problem was the same.

I contacted Philips and they said they had never heard of this but offered to look at the player under warranty. Unfortunately for me I couldnt find my proof of purchase so decided that I wasn't going to pay for them look at it as there is a samsung player on offer for £99 at my local supermarket and it just doesnt seem cost efficient to do so.

I am glad that it isnt just my player, but disappointed that this flaw is present in my players and others.

I should also state that I have tried 2 firmware updates on this, but to no avail. It is a hardware issue and not something that is likely to be able to be fixed by software.

I have the very same issue with my BDP3000/05. The issue happens with every bluray or DVD that I play, new or old. I have the latest firmware update. I contacted Philips with no joy. The picture drops for 2 -3 seconds 4 or 5 times during a film. Its really really annoying. For me it does not appear to be related to electrical interference.

Ill try swapping to a different HDMI port as suggested in an earlier post.

Yes, that's the one. Disconnected it as it is so unusable and as it is out of warranty a product destined for the skip.

sad to hear that... but just for my players, this is not observed (BDP5100/3200/ 9600)
maybe i just have a PC next to them, not other electronic devices..

It looks like this is a common problem and yet no product recall has been requested. Can anyone from Philips explain why this happens?

if you are referring to the interference, it is not that common. but if mean the drop out/hang-up. it may happen randomly and can be observed in the case of different players.
in my players, this hang-up issue doesnt seem frequent, and i do think there are higher chances to hang up if i play particular certain files...
