A sad decision to hear, but I am not surprised any more. For almost two years now, Philips has failed to enable DVB-T EPG for Greece, despite my many complains.
Having upgraded my TV with all firmware updates, I don't remeber any real improvement. There was a change in NetTV, and a few countries got a DVB-T update, but apart from that, nothing new.
This suggests that, if something does not work as expected when you buy a product, don't expect that it will be fixed. Even if it is a simple software fix...

Well well, and now we have to much critisism, Philips is deleting posts they donot want to see on this forum (read the annoucement).
Is this the way Philips is going to act now? Delete wat you donot want to hear ?
We are upset abouw this disicion, but Philips doesnot seem to understand !!! What kind of manufactuerer and producent is Philips ???? Certainly not one that understands their custumers.

Hi,
they deleted SPAM messages. Yesterday evening (and the days before) we had massive Philips unrelated posts/threats.

Hi,
the interessting thing is, that on 2009 devices Now/Next is working (e.g. 32PFL8404H/12 with FW Q5481-0.26.75.0).

Hi,
I'm not sure with the Firmware version, however, the changelog states the following of the mentioned TV:
Q5481_0. 26.33.15
To disable Now and Next program banner after channel change. This is a new EPG
(Electronic Programme Guide) requirement.

This fact shows that the Philips Decision "2010-2011 TV models without now/next feature, 2009 and 2012 models with it" is a pure mockery.
Shameful for the Philips brand recognition!Last edited by Nettle; 03-15-2012 at 08:20 AM.

Hi,
Yes - Toengel got the information from me. My Brother-in-law has the named 32PFL8404H/12 and he ALWAYS gets information about the actual broacast (time from - time till & Title) approx. 2 sec. after switching the channel in the headline of the screen.
I feel very disappointed as already posted in Toengels blog (in German) because I believe that the function is meanwhile state of the art and not a "uncritical functional" which is not worth to work on. The 2009 series shows that Philips had already a working alternative!
Every No-Name SAT-receiver has the function mostly even with a column to visualize the remaining playing time. It is definately a shame not to offer such a function. Why do I need a triple receiver, if I still have to use my external receiver to use the Now/next function???
Best regards
HiHiMan

I have been waiting eagerly for this functionality for 2 years now!
To find out that Philips won't be providing such an easy to add feature, is absurd and preposterous!
I have been buying Philips TVs for the last 30 years and most of my home electronics products are from Philips:
- Many TVs (highest end)
- Pronto remote - most expensive model
- DVD Recorders (high end)
- Speaker sets
- PC Monitors
- LivingColour Lights
- LivingAmbiance Lights
- Beard Trimmers
and the list goes on.
I used to be a very big Philips fan!
Also I have a very influential business position where people regularly ask me which TV to buy.
My recommendations result in hundreds of sales.
This recent decision, of Philips, to completely ignore us, is the final straw!
Unless Philips reconsiders this decision, I will not ever buy a Philips product again, nor recommend a Philips product ever again.
I will turn my back and will go to Korean/Japanese manufacturers that seem to care more.
I have sent hundreds of thousands of euros worth of sales to Philips, but these stop here and now!!!
I have had enough!
I suggest the following:
- An online petition is started to loudly voice our complete and utter disgust with this decision, to the Philips management.
- A letter is drafted explaining our position and intense disappointment. This letter can then be signed and send by ordinary post to Philips Headquarters by each and every member here who are upset with this.

SDK?
It would be nice if philips releases a SDK so we can develop these features ourselves.

Well, there is at least the beginning of an SDK. If you look at the OIPF specifications (Volume 5 - Declarative Application Environment) and on www.yourappontv.com, you'll find it should be possible.
Unfortunately, it seems DAE is not fully supported according to standard, or Opera doesn't allow this by default. I think, the commands are there, because I guess IP-EPG is implemented that way.
I tried the ITV test suite from mit-xperts, and playing video and stuff works fine, but access to TV functions (get/set channels & lists, USB recordings, time shift, access to DNLA functions, etc) does not work.
It seems the default Opera Internet widget blocks access to these functions or they are not implemented or documented.
Using JSON is also not possible for the same reason - XMLHttpRequest/POST cannot be used for cross-site access (localhost and Now/Next-App server) without relaxed security settings in the widget.
Philips would have explicitely allow Cross-Host scripting for the NetTV widget, or allow us to define our own widget configs.
It's really a shame we have such a nice TV and platform but not the appropriate access to do cool things with it.
