YouTube on Net TV is UNUSABLE

I must say, that the application YouTube on NetTV is UNUSABLE, the text input is horryfying, you can not use the MyRemote application for input, it does not store previous searches.
Is there any chace of getting anything better, this was one of the reason that i even considered buying the new tv. Also i tried to open youtube on the free internet access in NetTV, but it seems not to be working. Any ideas why?

Regarding the weak usability of You Tube for the 2010 Philips TV user (like me)
we were sending several complaints in this forum for the missing Keyboard availability in the past for example.

I was sure that the 2011 TV customers could be more satisfied with You Tube.

Obviously not, since i bouht my tv in january 2012,a and the situation has not improved.

The possibility of free internet access was one of the reasons for buying a 52PFL8605. YouTube is one of the sites I (intended to) visit very often.

But without a reasonable input device (e.g. a KEYBOARD!) it is really bullsh... ehmm ... it simply makes no sense, you will get crazy.

So I am rather rather disappointed, too.

I agree I would rather have the TV dumb and much cheaper with its picture and sound, and have to buy a media player or blu ray player with the savings.

I found the youtube app terrible.

It auto loaded something which was not child friendly (contained foul language) , crashed often.
I worked it out but my 3 year old LG blu ray player had a better interface my kids could manage.

Come on Philips if you develop this yourself get developers that know how to design user interfaces.
If its outsourced dont pay until it works.

At this rate these 2011 models will be in the bargain basement soon.

I use the YouTube app but when searching for videos, using an iphone or android phone, i cannot use the phone keyboard properly. The app does not recognize the letters from the keyboard but writes numbers instead.

I'm using a TV 32PLF6606 from late 2011 and an iPad2 with the MyRemote app, and that app doesn't support keybord input on Youtube NetTV either. I experience the exact same problem with the app writing a lot of digits instead. Really useless having a 2011 TV with a 1995-GUI.

Philips promotes Youtube in their on-device electronic manual as THE application to benefit from an additional USB keyboard.

There went 30 Euro down the drain for that unusable K360 keyboard.



Philips needs to sort out this mess by providing an API for keyboard input in NetTV applications and stimulate developers to make use of it.
Philips needs to stop putting incomplete beta software on their TV's and promote it as feature.

I get tired when I think about entering a search term in my web enabled TV.

As NetTV is a platform from Philips, every company can built apps for that platform. It is like on your pc or smartphone. You can also use applications and programs from third parties. If one of those third party applications does not support all input devices you have connected, or removes support of some input devices, your PC or smartphone manufacturer can not do anything, except remove the app from the app gallery.

So, as stated from Philips, YouTube/Google is working on an update. If I'm right, the keyboard has been working with the "old" YouTube app. YouTube updated its TV app and support of keyboard is not there in the new app.

Agree. Net TV is another "me too" try for an "ecosystem" of applications /developpers like on Smartphones mainly because it features a pushed application list.

Having control over which applications are published, why is Philips still allowing the Youtube application to show up?

Better a broken YouTube than no YouTube?

Meanwhile they are falsely advertising in the manual that YouTube on NetTV supports an external USB keyboard.

Meanwhile:
-it does not support the remote control well
-it does not support the USB keyboard at all
-it misses a bunch of basic YouTube functionality users come to expect


Why YouTube can pull this off? It has been over a month my keyboard is catching dust.

Philips, please up the requirements with regard to user friendliness to be fulfilled before the applications shows in NetTV

Supporting a full keyboard set can't be hard for those dev's.

Just provide them with the proper documentation.



Its 2012 and yet because I am supposed to be watching TV from my lazy couch I have no right on productive text input?

Do you believe people will eventually admire and start to love NetTV because it "can play YouTube video's" or because it is a pleasure to use even though no Youtube and Skype?

It's funny!

We were complaining since years regarding the missing keyboard feature for our 2010 models.

"Regretfully we have to communicate you that the You Tube keyboard fature will be implemented only for 2011 models.
For the users equipped with Android smartphones or Tablets (everyone of us is equipped with and Android Smartphone, I collect ripe and juicy smartphones and Tablets on my garden's trees every morning) you can eventually type on the screen using them.
Enjoy your TV, it's fun!" was claiming Philips in the past.

And now????

a) Keyboards are working "very very well" for the satisfied 2012 Philips TV You Tube users.
At the end the promise was mantained.

b) the remote control is at the "state of the art" status!

c) You Tube is showing an embarrassing lack of mandatory features.
At the end everything is remained the same.

It's really funny!

The Philips brand reputation is definitively sinking. Mission accomplished !!!!
