Fidelio Docking speaker DS3510

I recently purchased a Fidelio Docking speaker DS3510 and I have 2 questions:

1. When I plug the USB into the docking speaker and also my Mac nothing happens - what should I see?
2. My daughter's 4th Generation iPod cannot pair with the docking speaker - should I?

1) PC synchronization via USB
