40PFL8606H - mkv playback via USB
Here is an new review on the 40PFL8606H.
http://www.digitalversus.com/tv-tele...2066/test.html
It gets good review but I am concerned about this point:
"The media player itself was something of a disappointment. During our tests, it didn't recognise any of our MKV files, nor could it cope with chapters or subtitle tracks."
However the leaflet on the philips homepage says: (http://download.p4c.philips.com/file...12_pss_aen.pdf)
Multimedia Applications
• Video Playback Formats: Codec support:,
Containers: AVI, MKV, H264/MPEG-4 AVC,
MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WMV9/VC1
Will this be fixed in the next software upgrade?
Has anyone tried to play mkv files from flash drive via USB?
Regards.

Hi
mkv is not a codec. Its a container, it can "contain" basically everything.
To see what parts from "everything" will work, look at the link from Toengel's post.

Hi
Just to update. I have tried several mkv files and they have all worked except one that didn´t give any sound. I am happy with my TV except for one little detail: The box was missing some crucial screws needed for the stand/wall mount. I wen´t back to the store and they looked in two other unopened TV boxes and these screws were missing in all of them! I had a screw that fitted in my screwbar at home but, I intend to go back to the store soon when they have hopefully got them sent from Philips.
