USB TV Camera For 32PFL4007T
Hi,
I'm looking for a TV Camera that I can plug in to one of the USB ports on my new 32PFL4007T Smart TV.
The only camera I have seen is the PTA317/00 but in its specs it does not list my TV as being compatible even though it was built in April 2012.
Does anyone know if this camera does work with my TV please? If not could someone recommend a camera that works. It must use less than 500 milliAmps of power.
I printed off the manual but cannot even find the video codecs it supports to aid me in my search.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Hi,
your TV does not support Skype - so no webcam support. Skype is supported beginning of 6xx7 series...

The Users Manual of this TV states: "Add a new dimension to your calls and contact your friends and relatives on the big screen. You can make video calls on your TV with a Philips HD Media box and a Philips TV video camera (both sold separately). Enjoy HD video and excellent sound quality from the comfort of your settee and start calling now!"
What "Philips HD Media box" and what "Philips TV video camera" is needed?Last edited by DellUser; 07-20-2012 at 11:33 AM.

Hi,
for Home Media Player HMP7000 or HMP70001 (depends on region) it is planned to support Skype via Firmware-Update (this is what I heard). So you need a camera for your HMP.
But Blu-ray player BDP55x0, BDP6100 and BDP7700 also support Skype.
Both solutions are external ones.

Nice that Philips will offer a universal Skype kit.
In this way it is universal to all TV's, even to old or non Philips branded TV’s.
It would have been nicer if we could just plug in a universal webcam with microphone and get the Skype App on the TV.
As far as I know, no brand is offering such an easy and cheap solution. They all use expensive Skype kits.
It seems that Skype only allows Skype certified hardware in combination with the official TV Skype App.
It might be cheaper to connect a cheap tabled PC with HDMI out, including camera & Skype App to the TV.
Anyone having experience with such a solution?

Thanks for that,Toengal. It does seem that Philips come up with very expensive solutions to what is basically a very simple problem.Worse, there does not seem to be a location where you could see all the available accessories for any given Smart TV or check out their specifications.
I have a Windows 7 laptop which connects wirelessly to my tv.Though I have Skype installed on that the TV only allows me to access my library folders to play music or videos.
I'll reserve judgement for the moment and hope that the update mentioned will indeed include Skype and possibly some webcam support.
Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to post the information. It is greatly appreciated. Thanks too to Delluser for his very interesting posts.
