    BDP 3200 - no wmv support ?

    Hi.
    A few days ago i bought a BDP 3200.
On the Philips webpage and also in the shop (the salesman verify infos via webpage) i got the information, BDP 3200
    plays wmv files.
But the one i have doesn´t show any file with the ending .wmv in the menu (of usb device) and doesn´t play them (if i rename them, movie.wmv > movie.wmv.avi).
It seems to me that there are (since the first player-release) so many different versions of the unit and also much changes in hardware. As the new design of the 3200 looks like the 3280 now, it seems to be also based on similar hardware (chipset).
Non of the newer 3xxx models declares wmv-playabilities under specifications. So my question would be - are the last releases of the BDP 3200 more a light-version of the previous 3200 ?
Am i right with my suggestion about an other chipset and so a firmware update wouldn´t help to get my wmv-files working on my player ?
Or is just something wrong with the one i bought ? Is there a newer firmware avaible ?
I´ve downloaded the latest firmware package for the 3200/12 and one of the 3 files is named 3200_M2.bin.
    Under System-Infos my player says: BDP 3200M2/12 2.09 VB1Bxxxxx.
Any answer would be nice and helpful.

    Dear Schlacke,

As per our codec table, both our 2011 and 2012 models support wmv. It maybe some codec issue. Please refer to the below extracted table for more info. In short, if the codec of your wmv file is out of the below scope, it may not be supported.

To check the codec of your files, there are some free software that can help. I will send you a PM for this.

I´ve used Medainfo to get the neccessary informations.
    It says:
    Format : VC-1
    Profil: MP
    Codec ID WMV3
    Codec ID Info WMV9

Some wmv-files shows WMV1 or WMV2, some MP HL or MP ML; a really old one says something about MP43 (the only one i found i could play)
But most of my files are like the first info above.
And the MP43 wmv-file i´m only able to play after renaming it (movie.wmv > movie.wmv.avi)
I connect a usb-stick and a hdd with different files on it (mpeg, avi, mp4, wmv...) to the player. All of the files are listed in the menu, except the wmv-files. I can´t see them in the file-list.
Most of the files are from all over the web. And i think that VC-1/WMV9 is THE STANDARD (at the moment). Also if i try converting a avi-files to wmv-file with Windows Media Converter (without changing the standard options) it gaves me a VC-1/WMV9 output.
Under the supported file-/codec-types in the description of the player on the german philips webpage VC-1 and WMV9 are listed.
Maybe somebody could upload a wmv-file that should work or he has tested on his own BDP3200 (M2) to make sure that there is no specific problem with my player. Could be a just a short one, a few seconds would be enough i think.
I´m wondering that really no file with the extension "wmv" is shown in my menu.
If the files are visible or not (in the menu) depends on the extension, or am i wrong ?
I guess the the reading of file-information (container, codec...) are the second step > if the player try to play them.
My second question was about the firmware. I´ve downloaded the last one for the 3200.
And there are 3 bin-files (one is named 3200M2.bin > my player), but there was no further information about fw-version in the zip-container.
How could i check if i could use the fw (how to know the version of the M2-fw i´ve downloaded) - at the moment i have 2.09.
    Thanks

No further help, no hints by anybody ?
Just a few days left to decide to keep the player or to give it back to the store.

    Dear Schlacke,

Checking with the team, confirmed that this model is an exception with no wmv support. I will update the documentation in the forum also. Apologies for causing all these troubles to you.
