Dear Lech1,
According to our latest testing report, DC390 is compatible with iPad 3 (both 3G version & 3G + Wi-Fi version).
It does support playback and charging.
Kind regards,

Hi,
Are you sure about playback? Charging works but it does play thru DC390, unless some other steps on connection are needed. If I just dock iPad 2 it plays immediately, however iPad 3 plays only thru its internal speaker.
Kind regards,
L.

Hi Lech1,
According to the doc I have on hand, yes it does support iPad 3 playback.
But if this doesn't work right for you, I will revert this to our development team to have more testing. Will come back to you later on this. Thanks.
Kind regards,

Hi Philips,
I think, this doc should be reviewed. In my case, only charging works in respect to iPad 3, no audio goes through DC390.
Kind regards,
L.

Dear Lech1,
The team tested this again and confirmed the playback should be supported.
Could you try resetting your iPad 3 and then try again?
Kind regards,

Well, will try later on, however, this was just a brand new iPad 3 out of the box just connected.

I was interested in this product for a iPad 3 and iPhone 4s combo but noticed a similar complaint on Amazon. It mentioned that after contacting Phillips, a pending update to the unit could be coming rectify the compatibility. Not sure if that's possible. Regardless, I too want to confirm That it will play back audio, not just charging from a ipad3.
I am still interested but will wait for a confirmation on ipad3 status for full functionality before I purchase.

Dear Ssahnan,
Thanks for your interest for DC390. From our development team's info, they confirm that the playback is supported. I am checking with the team if they can supply us some evidence. Will let you know later for this.
Also, for Lech1's issue, we are also looking into that. Will update if I have feedback from the team also.
Kind regards,

Hi Ssahan,
Otherwise, there is also the DC291 (I have bought the DC291/12) and this one is supporting charging and playback of Iphone 4S and The new Ipad.
One remark.
If you have a back cover then placing of the Ipad3 is impossible on the dock.
I have a Targus Vucomplete and this one is too thick. Only by tilting the connector to complete vertical (with a permanent home made fixture) the Ipad3 can be placed on the connector.
I now remove the backcover before placing the ipad on the dock.
Love the system, marvelous sound from a small box.
:-)

I'm the one who wrote the Amazon review. Last night I again could not get the unit to work - when an iPad third generation is docked, the entire unit freezes - all the buttons on the Philips unit are non responsive. Out of six attempts, once was I able to get the radio to not be frozen and unresponsive. As soon as the third gen iPad is removed, the unit responds again to input, buttons work, can turn on the alarms, etc.
This device clearly is not compatible with the third generation iPad, which was acknowledged when I talked with support in March who kept contacting someone on the tech side there and verified it was a problem they knew about and were working on.

I have tested on a 291 at a local shop, it worked well, no issues. The dock even easily fit the ipad3 with a smart cover and a incipio smart feather case on the back. Finding a dock to fit all that is pretty rare.
That said, the lure of the 390 was the dual dock/dual charge. Without that, the 291 doesn't have the lure that drew me to wanting a speaker dock. I'll keep hunting I suppose.
Thanks for the responses though....

Actually, yesterday I tried the ipad3 and iPhone 4s on the 390 at a local apple store and it worked just fine. Charged, played audio, etc.
