thought for improvement of youtube app
the new updated youtube app looks much nicer and more advanced than the older more simple one, except for one major flaw that impacts its usability.
when using the onscreen keyboard to type in search terms the app auto searches after every key input. this is an intensive process that taxes the televisions meagre 250 mhz cpu causing an onscreen freeze. this short freeze gives me a 3 to 5 second lag between entering letters into the search box. this has taken me upwards of 5 minutes to type a 4 word search string.
the app can be vastly improved by either disabling the auto search function altogether or by giving it a 2 second pause after the last onscreen movement on the key entry area.
even on the powerful xbox 360 they give you a good 2.5 second pause after the last onscreen movement before searching for your keywords, the hardware in this television is much less powerful and is definitely not set up to provide a smooth experience of rendering your results on screen constantly while you are typing.

110% true, that immediate search result display makes youtube usage very unusable, since after every keypress is lengthy delay. Causes easily mistypes if trying to enter fast.
And another issue, it seems that keyboard in android app controlling TV cannot work, since youtube app doesn't accept keyboard input, only clumsy arrow-key navigation. That's too bad since somewhere was claimed that this remote control app would allow keyboard input on youtube in nettv. Propably it was working before this "new improved" thing was brought on.
So I wouldn't call this youtube app usable since basic search logic is very clumsy.

Well, since you asked:
Various improvements to the youtube app would be very welcome:
1)
support for usb keyboard and mouse navigation
2)
Start the youtube search after the command 'search', instead of searching after every letter that is 'ok-d'- which is, I suspect- a (frustrating!) youtube software thing that slows down the app.
3)
"my youtube"
If you have a youtube account, you can personalize using
- my (subscriptions to) channels (>> channels hold playlist(s))
- my playlists
- my favourites
- my view later
- my history
- my likes (thumbs up)
- my uploads
The confusion is, that there are functions not working and /or missing in the smarttv app. Or... am I doing something wrong... (?)
Here's what happens in practice:
I've subscribed to about 20 youtube-channels (using my pc). Now, if I navigate to 'my youtube' ('mijn youtube' in the netherlands) on the smarttv app and try to access the channels I subscribed to ('abonnementen'), I get one playlist of 4 videos, instead of a list of the 20 youtube channels I subscribed to. The videos in that playlist, are only the most recent videos of some of the 20 channels. Not of all 20 channels, because most channels do not have recent videos. So in this case I get only got 4 videos.
I can't find the list of the 20 channels I've subscribed to. I would like that.
And, IF I then select a channel, I would like to be able to select a playlists that resides within the specific channel.
Of course, all preferably using an usb mouse to navigate; since my 5007 tv can handle an usb keyboard and mouse, I like to benefit from that, especially in these kinds of scenarios).
Can it already be done, and do I need 5), or does it need some tweaking on the app?
4)
a search option that specifies for
- channels
- playlists
- videos
5)
It is very possible that I'm doing something wrong, but I'm reaching in the dark here; a manual /"help section" would be handy. I mean, googling for answers using search phrases containing 'smarttv, youtube, channel' does not lead to relevant results...
Thanks for reading!
