HTS 5120 Skipping recorded DVD's with low crackling sound from the player
I own a Soundbar HTS5120 and from the day its installed, it is skipping recorded DVD's that I have tried to play, there is no fixed pattern, sometimes it starts skipping after 30min of play or inbetween and sometimes after 2 hrs on the same disk.
I checked, but It doesnt skip the VCD's and the Studio pressed Disc's but I have noticed crackling sound and a picture jerk on one of the Studio disks also.
I am on the 1.5s firmware and dont know if this is a disk issue or the laser calibration issue or we have a separate firmware of the player which needs to be updated.
Does anyone has any clue or experiences similar problem.

Still continuing with the same problem which doesnt seem to relate to disks as if in one instance it starts skipping at a certain video frame but at another instance, it will play the same frame on the same dics without any problem.
Also noticed that after certain amount of skipping the player just comes to a STOP with a blank player time display and goes back to start of the DVD but if you try to play etc it doesnt work, then if you try to play other discs also it gets jittery and you have to power cycle the HTS from the mains.
I want to ensure that all the firmware and software are up-to-date, please see the attached screenshot.
Can any of the owners of this model or the Philips technical support staff please verify and confirm that all the firmwares are of the updated version specifically the MCU as it dates to 2010. This info can be found under Setup Menu and Preference Sub menu and Version Info under it.
Thanks!

hi there,
it seems to me that 1.5s is the latest firmware already.
the recorded DVD means they are not commercial DVDs?
what software you use to burn the dvd?
any issues playing with commercial dvd?

I have played commercial DVD's but skipping is still there or lesser, depending on the DVD. I could not establish any pattern for them too.
I have used HC encoder for most of the disks which plays well on my older philips LX3600D.
Did Change to DVD Flick using FFEncoder to rule out encoder problems but problem remains the same.
Can you pls confirm that the MCU ver is most updated too.

Dear user,
Having checked with our development team- if firmware upgrade can not solve the issue, we suggest returning your player to service centre to investigate the root cause. If playing VCD is OK but playing DVD has issue, it may be related to laser defect.
With thanks & regards,

Thank you Philips Support and Development team, I gave the player for repairs and the laser(KHM-133) was replaced along with one more component. The player is working fine now without any problems.
And all this time I was under the impression that its some kind of issue the DVD discs, encoder etc.
Thanks!!
