Airplay from iphone 4s to DS8800w not working properly - it disconnects continuously

    Hello All,

I have a Philips Fidelio DS8800w with airplay and the speaker connects to my wifi without any problem. However, the speaker stops playing repeatedly when I stream from my iphone 4s. I've seen several posts describing similar issues but I have found no solution.

As stated in the user manual, the unit should be working with any iphone:
"To stream audio wirelessly by AirPlay, you need:
    - A wireless router that is powered on
    and working properly.
    - An AirPlay device (e.g., an iOS 4.2 (or
later) enabled iPod touch/iPhone/iPad or Wi-Fi enabled PC or Mac installed with iTunes 10 (or later)).

Any update on this or should I return this loudspeaker because there won't be a fix for this?

    Please let me know.

    Regards.

    Hello,

Are you using Philips SoundStudio app? How many devices are connected to the router?

    Kind regards,

    Hi,

Only the iPhone and the loudspeaker were connected to the router, I haven't had any router problems so far. And yes, I have the SoundStudio app. However, I just want to use airplay, independently of any app. I just want to stream audio from my iphone to the loudspeaker using airplay and any app such as iphone's Music app, Spotify or Google Play. This loudspeaker is supposed to support airplay from any app. However the connection drops. This is issue has been reported in other forums:

    http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...update-problem

    http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...ade-ds8800w-10

    Please let me know.

    Kind Regards.

I just bought the loudspeaker in Amazon 2 weeks ago, it never worked properly.

Is there any planned firmware update? It seems this issue was fixed in loudspeaker DS9800W/10.

    Regards.

    Hello,

Please connect your iPhone 4s via mp3 link and tell me if that works.

Also please do one or all of the following:

    • Enable the Auto Channel Scan option (if available on the Wi-Fi router).

    • Enable the Wireless Intelligent Stream Handling (WISH) option (if available on the Wi-Fi router).

    • Enable the Quality of Service (QoS) option (if available on the Wi-Fi router).

    Kind regards,
    Philips Moderation Team

    Hi,

Yes, connecting it through AUX IN works. Still, this is not a digital input and I'd like to obviously use an airplay stream.

Auto Channel Scan option and QoS enabled, WISH not available in my router.

If this is an issue of my unit or an issue of this model I will return it. It seems there are some other people with the same issue as described in previous topics.

    Regards.

    Hello,

There is no known issues with DS9800W so the problem must be in the router.

What is the distance between the speaker and router? Can you check with another router?

    Kind regards,

Please check my first post, I have a DS8800w unit, not DS9800. Some other people reported issued with DS8800.

What I said is that this issue seems to be fixed in DS9800 but there is no firmware update for DS8800. And updating DS8800 unit with DS9800 firmware is not recommended as explained here:
    http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...update-problem

The router works fine with other devices.

    Best.

    Hi Rafal,

I'm sorry to disagree on this. As you can see by checking similar topics in this forum (I pointed to some of them above), there are issues with this unit DS8800w.

My router and iphone work without problem, I'm able to have video conferences and receive multimedia streaming without problems and these actions are probably more demanding in terms of bit rate than just streaming audio.

I guess I should then return my DS8800w.

    Regards.

    Hello,

Please check with another router as this is most likely the cause of the problem.

    Kind regards,

As I said, my router (less than 6 months old) and iphone work without problem, I'm able to have video conferences and receive multimedia streams without any problem (from the very same location) and these actions are more demanding in terms of bit rate than just streaming audio.

Also I am able to airplay to my appleTv from my iphone, computer and tablet without problems too.

Finally, as I said before, there are other people with similar issues. Some of them claim that updating the device with DS9800 firmware fixes the problem so I would say it is most likely to be a problem of this DS8800 unit.

    I will return my DS8800w.

    Regards.

    Hello Curuxeira,

As this model is now end of life, you need to contact local Philips dealer or repair shop for solution.

I apologise for the inconvenience caused.

    Kind regards,
    Philips Moderation Team
