Extreme in-motion smearing while watching TV (FW 140.47, 2010 TV)

Hi,

I have a problem with my 21:9 TV (Q5553, FW 140.47).

Signal quality: almost 100 %, Bit Error Rate = 0

When a fast horizontal movement is present in the TV stream I have extrem smearing. It seems that the intermediate frame calculation (hello PMR) isn't that good as in the past. I tried to shot a video of it and I extracted consecutive frames:



Even Sometimes the broadcast logo (top right) is jumping about 5 to 10 cm to the right when a fast horizontal movement is present in the broadcast.

Hi all,

I'd like to revisit a subject I launched some time ago. Maybe it's related to Toengel's problem.
it's about the problem I showed with the Matt Damon pictures & the Dutch RTL 7 leader.
The problem is best described as follows: the colour blue is one frame behind the rest. (or ahead)

I've tried PMR on / off. Clear LCD on / off. Super resolution on / off etc.

also tried different sources.

Also when playing with the Xbox 360 it's very apparent because of a lot of fast horizontal pannings
and that's in game mode, every sort of processing is disabled.

@philips, I ask again, is this software related or could my panel be faulty?? See my previous posts for pictures...

that looks bad, but...

First of all, do you also notice this with other sources, like Blu-ray?...
What quality source is this exactly (HD or SD) and do you maybe know its bitrate?...
Have you tried other (older) Firmware versions yet?...

What "Perfect Natural Motion" setting do you use?...
And what "Dynamic Backlight" setting (Standard / Best Picture)?...
Have you tried changing these, as well as the "Clear LCD" setting?...

And finally: is that Louis de Funès?...

1) yes, Louis de Funès :-)
2) it happens on HD, SD, analog TV (didn't test BDs yet)
3) Philips TVs do not offer bitrates
4) didn't test older firmware yet
5) enhancements: I always use the 2nd best option on each setting

I'm watching EURO 2012 at the moment - I could see, that the broadcaster logo "jumgs around" in horizontal movement...

No fun at all...

Well... based on what you're saying, my first guess would be it is caused by yet another "improvement" in the latest firmware.

But I also think a lot can be improved by not always using the same, 2nd best, settings. Especially for EURO 2012, which I was watching today as well, and I did not see any "logo jumping" , my advise would be to set these two settings:

Dynamic Backlight:
Best Picture / Off (for Sports and Gaming)
Standard (for everything else)

Perfect Natural Motion:
Medium (for 24p Blu-ray)
Minimum (for most Movies and some Documentaries on tv)
Off (for everything else, including Cartoons, older (black and white) Movies, Sports and Gaming)

Hi Alex,

That doesn't look good indeed...
As I already indicated on the thread of 'rollufje', I didn't see the blue smearing on the leader...

The only thing I can see different is that I:
a) Am still using version 46
b) have a far WORSE signal strength
c) maybe have a newer version of the TV set itself (VN1M1146xxxxxx)

I hope you understand I'm not quite anxious to check version 47 to check if that indeed causes the smearing...

did some more tests:

- reflashing FW 140.47 via downgrade method
=> no change

- watching Blu-ray
=> also noticeable

Sometimes I have the feeling, that the image is flickering. It seems that some intermediate frames are missing from the image processing...

When did this "smearing" start? in example:Right after the software upgrade?
Have you change any cables, set top boxes etc before this startet?

Could you also please provide me with Serial number on your sets?

Hi,

I did not change any cables - I even let check the cable company to improve my signal (now BER = 0).

As far as I remember, it started since the upgrade from 140.46 to 140.47 - and it become worse and worse.

I did make some videos to show you the smearing or unsharpness and logo-jumping issue. Since these videos are MPEG files, I suggest to use Virtualdub with MPEG plugin to watch the files. With this tool you can watch at each frame separately - just use the cursor keys to go forward or backward.

So, here we go:
