    Question 52PFL9606: Best picture settings

    Hi all,

I would be really happy if you could share your own picture settings for 52PFL9606. I'm unhappy with the default cinema mode settings, I don't think the color settings are rightly balanced. Did anyone make 9606 calibrated by a professional ?

Of course I'm not just interested with color settings, also other picture processing settings are important. For example I disabled Perfect Natural Motion since it causes artifacts in my tests.

I just only found the following forum topic, however none of them seems as a calibrated setting, just personal preferences:

    Hi Buyukbang

When it comes to picture setting this is up to each person preferences and how you experience the picture.

You can go through the quick set-up of picture settings in settings menu. Make sure you choose the picture you think look best.

    Thanks for your response Benedickte!

I'm using a custom settings, however I'm not totally satisfied: TV is fine, but bluray seems a bit unnatural with my settings.

So I still wonder how a professional calibration look like on this TV ?

    Hi buyukbang.

I got a couple more questions i would appreciate if you can answer for me :

    1. What type of blu-ray you got ( brand, if Philips ; model number)

    2. Could you please explain what you mean with it seems a bit unnatural?

    3. Have you checked the settings on the blu-ray? this is because it seems like it's an issue with the blu-ray and not TV as you saying the TV is fine. Also make sure the resolution is set to the same on the tv and blu-ray ( in example; not 1080p on tv and 1080i on blu-ray)

    Best regards

    Hi Benedickte,

    Here are my answers :

1- I've a Mac Mini 2011 with Win7 installed and I'm using it as a media player and downloader. I using untouched full Bluray ISO files (35-50 gb).

2- When I use my custom settings created with the Philips seting wizard, TV vieving is perfect, colors are vivid. I think I like vivid colors with hi contrast while watching TV with my external sattelite receiver (I have Humax 9503 and VU+ Duo) So no problem in TV viewing.

But I really don't like these settings while watching blurays. My custom settings seems too vivid for this content, hollywood movies seems as amateur movies (even seems as my own camera recordings) without professional filters. This does not make me feel as watching an Hollywood movie.

When I use default Cinema mode, colors seems too redish. I don't think it's calibrated.

3- My Mac Mini have intel HD3000 card, there is no problem with its settings since I selected an option from Intel Graphic panel to leave picture processing to TV. So it does not touch / process the picture. All other color/contrast/brightness/gama settings are on their defaults.

My windows resolution setting is 1080P and refreshrate is 24P, same as on my TV.

BTW, What I'm looking for is really a professionally calibrated settings created by using specialized tools. There are know the review websites, they create and publish this type settings for most of the TV brands/models including Philips, but unfortunately 9606 is not one of them I could't find any calibrated settings on the internet.

Thank you for your interest !

    Hi buyukbang,

Sorry to see that you are not satisfied with the predefined settings.
However, even with this Options activated in your HD3000 that does not mean that graphic is untouched, because this can not be done by a PC graphics card, graphic needs to be processed.
You can see that pictures is fine using other external devices.

The only advice i can give you is to check also the settings within the Videoplayer on the PC.

Otherwise, there are external devices to calibrate TV screens but that you need to check for yourself.
