    SHP 8900 Replacement cable

    Hi,
i am from Germany and i bought the Phillips studio - headphones SHP8900 around 50 €.
    The problem is :

The cable is broken right at the TRS connector at the 2,5mm plug.
    I need a replacement cable.
Since i dont have the seriel number anymore and no warranty, i want to buy a new cable for this model.

How much does it cost, and where do I get this ?

    My opinion :

Wonderful Headphones! But the cable is horrible, and it should be way more stable.
I understand that its important for you to bind the costumer on the product, but why is it so hard to get a spare part?
No distributor has the replacement cable for sale.
And since a Headphone is a consumable part, cause you can imagine a headphone is in dynamic use, it should be easier to buy a new cable.
And please dont tell me the spare cable costs as much as the headphones themselves, when i bought them.
Cause i saw the price is now doubled, nearly.
If that is the fact, you loose one costumer, cause besides I love your technical perfection and the quality of the sound the headphones produce, i dont follow the predetermined breaking point / profit maximization philosophy.

Sorry for posting this in the official forum,
but someone has to try to stop the capitalistic strategies

    My point :
I want to get these beasts to work again, you did some crazy work there

Please tell me where i find a local distributor where i can buy the replacement cable.

    My best regards,
    Audiophile

hi audiophile, you mean the extention cable? i dont have this product, but the cable is detachable right?
since this is a 2006 model, if no stock on the cable, then maybe you can ask them to check which cable (of other models) is compatible with your headphone.

    Dear Audiophile,

This cable is out of stock already and since this is a 2006 model we will no longer refill our stock. We have also check if there is any other compatible cable. But the answer is negative.

Sorry that we cannot help much here. If you would like to buy a new headphone, we will be more than happy to give you more information and suggestions.

    Kind regards,

Well I bought these headphones, shp8900, no more then 1 and a half year ago. From a store in my home town. What I can say about them is that I WILL NEVER EVER buy another product with your BRAND on it from now on. Why? Simple: It took only a few mounths for the CABLE to broke in 2 places, one near the jack close to the ear piece and one at a few inches down. And I handled them with care all the time! But is seems that the material from what the cable is made is very low quality. And as I see I am not the only one here with the same problem. In other words your products are shity! And being unable to find a replacement cable can only mean one thing: I screw me and took my money! So ... f ... you!

Sorry for the bad language but i really hate to be taken for a fool.

    Why so angry?

It looks like a replacment cable from Shure fits as well. Read this topic:

    http://www.head-fi.org/t/598922/shp8...ed-cable-found

So Shure HPACA1 and Shure HPASCA1 should be good for Philips SHP8900.

This is not helpful at all. Why discard a serviceable product on account of a defective cable? That is not environmentally friendly at all. Moreover, why does Philips include such a poor quality part to their product? I have owned a fair number headphones and have not seen parts disintegrate like that. Really disappointing for the brand and poor support if I might add.

For all disgruntled customers out there here is a source that might remedy your situation. I have placed an order for it and will report if it works; http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement-...3D261502563711

    Hello Tim63!

For starters I would like to welcome you to our Philips Forum! It is always lovely to see new people here!

When there is such a thing as a replacement cable that can save the headphones and make them work again then of course that is a solution that all of us prefer. We agree on this fully!

In this case all the replacement cables that have been suggested have been non Philips and that is something we cannot support. If you wish to try it out you are very welcome to do so but if something goes wrong then we will not be able to help you find a solution.

If you for any reason see a behavior in your device, be it headphones or any other Philips product, that does not live up to the description Philips has provided you with then I would advise you to either contact your local call center and explain the situation or come to the Forum and give us some details on what happened and which product it is about.

Since the initial post and the headphones are both this old, I will close down this thread. If a similar issue arises, look around the forum to see if it already exists and has been answered or feel free to open up a new thread and even contact one of us moderators.

    Regards,
    Philips - Katerina
