Music cassette tape does not play at correct speed

Hi, When playing a music cassette tape on my mini Hi-Fi system Model FWM154/05, the sound reproduction is a wailing version of the true tune, and this is a brand new unit! I last experienced this sort of problem about 30yrs ago, when tape drives were belt or cord driven, did not expect to find it in these days of hi-tech products.

Has anyone an easy answer for this please?

Hi kwinnie, thanks for reply, have tried old, well used tapes and those hardly used but have the same result. Suspecting tight spindle bearings ( I am a retired Mechanical Engineer ), I even ran the tape drive at fast forward/reverse, without tape inserted, in order to "run in" the bearings but still the same result.
