Net TV: NOS (Dutch news)
Hi,
I've tried to watch the latest news via NOS, but halfway the broadcast, it stops and returns to the mainpage of NOS.
Did anyone succeed to watch the entire broadcast?
I hope the performance of NOS will be improved!
With kind regards,
HuubLast edited by Huub; 10-20-2010 at 07:51 PM.

known issues in Net TV apps (?)
Hi Huub,
I'm watching NOS news everyday on NetTV and indeed sometimes it stops unexpectedly. It's not everytime and I don't have any clue to reproduce the issue or solve it. Annoying is that after restarting you can't forward to the point it stopped. Stopping the broadcast might have something to do with the buffering as the same issue appears in the app 'Uitzending Gemist'. There it seems to happen more often.
The full of issues found thusfar in NetTV apps:
1. Journaal24: a. sometimes stops unexpectedly, b. no possibility to rewind or forward
2. Uitzending Gemist: sometimes stops unexpectedly
3. MeteoConsult: no animation is working. This makes it a - recommended by Philips - and superfluous app (there are however good alternatives like Buienradar and the Danish FORECA)
4. YouTube: personal account is not remembered (cookie not set?)
5. Nu.nl: predefined categories, no changes possible. Incorrect formatting of text (double titles etc.)
If other people are not experiencing these problems or experience others, please feel free to add to the list.
I believe Philips communicates seriously with its third parties ...
Cheers, daL

Hi daL,
Thanks for your excellent reply! I can confirm that other services stop unexpectedly also.
Only the trailers of Videoland seem to work perfect. I haven't tried a full movie yet, but it would be very disappointing if a movie stops halfway.
I wonder if the problem is caused by third parties or by the Philips server? I can imagine that third parties supply the content and Philips redirects it via their server.
Greetings,
Huub

We often watch programmes from the NOS news and Uitzending Gemist channels and also see the unexpected stop problem. I would say it happens to approx 30-40% of the programmes we choose. As these programmes are also available through the uitzendinggemist.nl website, I wonder if the servers are unable to cope with all the programme requests at peak hours. I don't think the problem occurs during off-peak hours.
I don't remember seeing the stop problem with the RTL Gemist channel.

Thanks Philips, for the reply and actions taken. I already noticed a performance improvement since the last firmware update (dd 2010-10-21). I estimate that now the videos play for 75%.
I also noticed that Drivecast (found in the Italian services) uses a progress bar when the video needs to buffer halfway. I can watch the Drivecast videos from the beginning untill the end! A 100% score eachtime!

Philips, it's great to see that you are participating in this forum and take actions to improve the services, thanks.
NOS journaal hasn't got the jump to percentage functionality (1=10%, 2=20%, ..) like other NET TV services offer. That would be another improvement (in particular after stopping unexpectedly).
A little trick I found out by coincidence is that you can't pause NOS journaal by the remote's OK button, but you can show the software 'remote control' (outer ring DOWN on remote) and choose its || button to pause.
I don't know if this software remote control can be used in other services as well.

A quick update:
I tried to watch NOS again this evening. From the 15 min. broadcast, I was only able to watch 5 min. Then automatically returned to the main menu of NOS.
Please keep pushing NOS to improve their service!
Thanks,
Huub
