Play *.rar files on Philips TV
Maybe this is a nice addon for Philips TV's!
Currently i'am using a Nvidia ION based nettop for playing my movies on the Philips TV (this because of the native resolution on the tv, and some more nice functionalities. (see topic:http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...1080)-via-HDMI
Now i want to start playing the movies direcly on the Philips TV, but i see a sligh problem:
*.MKV containers plays nice!, but since all movies are split in *.rar files, it would be a nice feature to be able to play *.rar files on the Philips TV.
With Windows media player classic home cinema it is possible, and works quite nice using this: http://codecpack.co/download/RARFileSource.html

Is there a way to unpack RAR files on Philips TV? Or you just have to do it on your computer and copy the files from there?

I think, a well compressed video file with choosing the right codec should not gain anymore from further packing with a lossless file compression program. What is the advantage of supporting rar compression?
If rar would be supported, it would also make sense to support other compression formats as well, like zip, 7zip, gz and so on.

Well... because it is the Scene Standard..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_(warez)#Packaging
Packing it to Rar files without further compression...
So what you download will always be .rar files...Last edited by elroy; 08-02-2012 at 11:27 AM.

Ok, I see.
The good thing on standards is: there are so many...
But wouldn't it make more sense to extract it after download and store it in a "real" video format? Since there is no further compression done.
I mean, every device would need to support rar format to play content, if you don't extract it. This is more code -> more bugs -> more expensive ...
