Don't miss any opportunity to learn
I received an appreciated reply from a Philips Forum moderator to my questions about the Philips PI3800 Tablet. This product has been launced in China but is a cat-in-the-bag for the English speaking customer who buys it without realizing how limited its use will be to him, proving to be a China-dedicated device. However, the website http://www.support.philips.com/suppo...userCountry=cn recommeded by the moderator will indeed help such a customer to find a User Manual in English, Frequently Asked Questions answered, even a phone numbert to call.
What disappointed me, was that the topic was closed prematurely by the moderator. There was nowhere else I could have gone with my problem other than this Philips Forum. Other users and perhaps Philips itself were alerted to a problem which a multi-national company marketing in China should be aware of. And a solution (or the beginning of a solution) came out of the posting. Why put a lid on any opportunity to learn?

Please allow and create a forum category for Philips Tablets, its going to be in demand soon. My “Black Service Market” technician in Shanghai has discovered a way to download Google Play on the Philips PI3800 Tablet, opening the way for all kinds of English Apps to be downloaded. A site given to me by a Philips Forum moderator provides a PI3800 User Guide with instructions about downloading from other sources than HiMarket. So if this posting is not closed again, I will report back on how to really “unlock” this very nice Philips Android device – if you buy it outside the USA and similar Western countries. The website with the User Manual is at http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/d...&slg=en&scy=CN .

I'm very happy to receive a response from a "fellow victim" of the Philips 7+ (PI3800) sold in China. Or perhaps my friend in Auckland, New Zealand, bought the same Philips tablet in his home country? I believe that NZ serves as a kind of testing ground for new electronic devices for many companies. I can give vdub a few tips about how to get some value out of the PI3800, after being assisted by a non-official IT technician from the computer bazaars of Shanghai. If good, they are the best. I'll put my tips in separate, new posting.
