Question Opening Disc Tray sometimes unresponsive (HTS8562/12)

    Hi all,

I have a HTS8562/12 wih the latest firmware 1.47.10 (MCU5.12). I have an issue that I also noticed with previous versions of the firmare.

When I want to open the Disc Tray by using the Eject button on front of the player (main unit) the disc tray is often unresponsive. Pressing the button once does not always result in the tray opening, sometimes it takes multiple presses on this button for the tray to open.

I wonder if any other users also experience this. Your feedback would be kindly appreciated.

    Hi,

this happens also on BD players in the very first beginning of the boot process. I think this is normal, since the "drivers" for the "external button" aren't loaded yet. I need to wait 1 minute, then everything is working...

If it's unresponsible later, this is not a correct behaviour from my point of view.

Thanks Alex, I'll do some more testing to check if the tray is also unresponsive after the boot process has completed.

Most of the time, I turn the player on and want to eject the disc I left in the player last time I used it, so it could be just during the boot process. The only thing I find annoying is that when I turn the player on, the disc automaticly starts, so first I have to wait for the player to boot, than I have to wait for the disc to load and then I can finally eject the disc.

Do you know if there's any option to turn off the automatic disc playback at startup?

    Hi,

no - there is no option. You need to wait until the disc loading is done...

This is kind of silly, electronic device functionality should be based on the way people use those devices, not the other way around.

    Hi,

I already told Philips in 2010 that this is not good... I asked for a feature to disable automatic startup of the disc...

@Philips: I second the request to implement an option to be able to turn off the automatic startup of the disc!

    Dear both,

I would like to give you some feedback on this request. We gave a study on this in 2011 and we would like to see if this can be implemented in the 2012 models. The conclusion from the team, however, is that this is easier said than done and we have some technical difficulties in implementing this. Hence, this piece of 'VoC' (voice of consumer) is put on hold. Sorry about this and hope you understand.

    Dear QK:

I understand your point of view, but isn't it just a software option like: "set disc autostart to 0 or 1", that could be implemented in the menu of the player?

Or am I thinking too simple? Are there side effects to this action?

I noticed that when you switch to the HTS (or Bluray) player from let's say the "Watch TV"-function, then the blue HTS main screen comes up. If you then, by using the remote, quickly highlight a function other than "Play disc", the disc isn't automaticly loaded. So there is some kind of way to stop the disc from being automatically loaded, but it's more kind of a workaround.
