55PFL4706/F7 - Flashing / Strobe Effect While Using Net TV
We have a new 55PFL4706/F7 - VM1A1229226531 - it is connected wirelessly to the internet and is running the latest software update - 326. For the first few days the nettv worked fine, but yesterday I started having an issue - first with netflix.
There was an intermittent flashing/strobe effect in the lower right hand corner of the TV. It looks like a strobe light is being flashed off screen. Now it seems to run continuously on netflix, no matter what show I watch. I switched to youtube and got the same effect briefly on the main nettv screen and then continuously while trying to watch a youtube video.
I thought the effect was because the wireless signal wasn't strong enough or was blipping. I rebooted the router, turned off all the computers and the xbox and it still happened. But I still got it intermittently on the main screen - and the effect now continues in netlfix or youtube when the screen is paused!
I tried to search but didn't find anything that sounded like the same issue. I'm worried we are going to have to return the TV.

Well now it's happening even when we are connected to DirecTV,so I guess there's something more seriously wrong.

Just an update to this. Not sure what is wrong with the TV, but we have temporarily fixed the problem on the HDMI feeds only by disabling "Active Control". Unfortunately this makes the bottom right quadrant of the TV noticeably dimmer than the rest of the TV. But if you are having a similar problem it at least makes the TV bearable to watch.
The flashing effect has increased while watching NetTV. Fortunately the TV is under warranty as it is brand new, so Philips is sending out a repairman tomorrow morning. Hoping that it is a quick fix. I actually have a crafting business and I do a lot of my work while watching NetFlix series so I'm going through withdrawals!

strobe, flashing, horizontal bars, flickering screen
rincaro, thanks for your posts. I have a similar problem. When using the HDMI inputs there is a strobe effect with the backlight on the whole screen. This is using an ATT Uverse cable box I have also noticed the Wii and Xbox 360 plugged into the component input (5 separate prongs) have horizontal pink and purple tinted bars that have gradually gotten thicker to about 4 or 5 inches tall. They completely cross the screen and can sometimes cover the screen.
A TV repair guy has come out and installed a new board that holds all the inputs but it hasn't changed anything. The firmware is completely up to date. It is not a smart tv that I know of. At least I have not connected it to the internet but I do not believe it is a smart tv issue. I will try turning off the active control and see if that makes a difference. Like you I probably wont be happy with just a smaller version of the issue though.
