Question Using extra connectivity on a hard drive recorder

Hi, I've got a hard disk recorder (now discontinued) HDT8520/05.

Excuse me if this is not the right part of the forum for HDD machines but I can't see where else to ask this.

In the manual, page 23, http://download.p4c.philips.com/file...05_dfu_eng.pdf it references the output capabilities of the machine.

It says "Ethernet*: To connect your HD recorder to an Internet access point" but does not say any more about this.

The reason for my query is that I have a load of things recorded on there which I would like to watch but the TV is often showing something that other members of the family would like to see. It would be great if I could access those elsewhere.

Actually it would be just as good if I could connect the HDMI cable to my iPad and sit there with headphones on and watch things.

At the moment the HDMI is connected into the back of our TV. Can anyone point me either at information on connecting the recorder to allow viewing on an iPad or connecting it to a router and then accessing the recordings elsewhere?

For example I have a BT Home Hub sat just behind the TV so I could wire the ethernet cable into that and access the box remotely via a PC: if I could find instructions!

    Any thoughts? Thanks.

Never heard of them. But I'm not sure I understand your point either. This was sold branded Philips with a Philips manual and I'm asking on a Philips forum about it.

Are you suggesting I should be asking elsewhere? (If so: where?) Or did you have another point that I am missing?

Just had a look at the manual that I linked to and I do indeed see that it is designed by Pace. I didn't notice that logo on the front cover before. I went searching and found the page for it on their website https://www.pace.com/universal/support/philips-hdt8520/ which although it has their default enquiry form on it does say "Please visit the Philips website for support information and enquiries."

So I guess I am in the right place to ask here then.
