Crash while using the Tagesschau app/channel in NetTV
Hi,
i bought a 40PFL7605H/12 a year ago and there are random crashes while watching the Tagesschau app/channel from the beginning.
While playing the articles, the tv turns off and then back on (restart). After that i have to start NetTV again. The issue comes up at automatic switching between the articles. Sometimes i'm lucky and everything works fine, but some days it crashes every few articles. I can't provoke this failure, so i think it is not a problem with the streams...
The software version is 000.140.046.000 (newest i can find). Is this issue know and is there a fix for it?

I experienced this, too. As you said, I can't provoke it, too. I remember, it is also on the bug list from toengel. But the comment from Philips was, that they need more information on that, what happens. There is a crackling and the TV restarts. On my side, it was not only with Tagesschau app. Also other apps lead to that.

Oh great.
I have reported it too. But there was no reply... Great support. I don't know how to get more information. Maybe there is a way to get an error-log file from the tv...

Yes, maybe there is one. But I do not know how to access it.

I can also confirm this behavior on my 40PFL9705K.
The issue comes up at automatic switching between the articles. The last image appears for about 1 sec. with an extreme contrast and then the screen is black (restart).

As far as I know, the apps are not developed by Philips, but by the content providers.
So maybe your best bet would be to find a contact on the ARD website and tell them about your problems.

I don't think that this is something for the app providers. Since this problem can be observed cross apps one could contact different app providers.
NetTV is a web-based service, so it is expected, that the browser does not crash, due to apps. If so, it should be more provokable, due to some syntax errors.

You're right of course. Sorry, I missed the part where you mentioned it happens to other apps as well. A wrong syntax should crash Opera "reliably".
I've experienced crashes when pushing buttons "too quickly" with time-shifting and not waiting long enough for the TV to finish the last operation.
Maybe this error can be reproduced in the same way (by not waiting until the TV has finished rendering)?Last edited by matthias; 02-03-2012 at 07:19 AM.

Another thing to try:
The next time, you experience a crash, can you try to replay the same stream from the App after a reboot? If it crashes again, it might be a strangely encoded stream that crashes the Philips Video Player.

I think it is not an encoding problem. Normally i wait for the tv to reboot, start the app again and jump to the stream where it crashed. It works. Sometimes it crashes again some streams later, sometimes it doesn't...
I'll try to watch the streams in the same order again, when it crashes the next time. Maybe the order is important... Today everything is played fine - great.
Another info - maybe a coincidence: After the update to the newest version, it plays fine for a couple days. I thought they fixed it. But then the issue occurs again :-(

Ok! Today it crashed again. The first crash occurred after the first article "Treffen Merkel-Sarkozy: Sonderkonto für Griechenland gefordert".
After the automatic reboot i started the app again and watched everything from the beginning. The second article (where it crashed before) plays without problems. Then at the change to the third article it crashed the second time. Automatic reboot...
Ok, and another run. Starting the app and watching everything from the beginning. I only started the app and do not press any buttons while the articles are played. The it crashed again at the 6th article...
I believe the crashes are completely random.
@Philips: Is there anything that we can do to help your support to fix the problem????

quick update:
The smart tv update doesn't solve the problem. The tv still crashes randomly.

Hello all,
There are more threads on crashes / reboots. (See here, here here and here.
I have been suffering from automatic reboots now for a couple of months.
It can be present 5 times in an evening and then its not there for about a week.
I expect the TV has a problem with network connection (either via NetTV, the IP-EPG, or accessing a DLNA media server).
