Picture Settings 46PFL 9706T / 12
Hello,
Concerning my new 46PFL 9706T / 12.
I've tried to do the picture settings as well as I can (reading the manual, trying different kinds of settings etc.) but I'm still not satisfied with the picture quality.
Could you please tell me, which would be the best settings?
Best regards
Joergen Lehnemann

Hi Joergen,
Welcome to the TV forum!
I'm sorry it's been difficult for you to find a satisfying picture setting on your TV.
The picture settings depends on several factors, like viewing environment conditions, devices connected to the TV like DVD players, tuners, gaming devices and above all on your favourite use of the TV: watching movies, tv, gaming.
I would recommend you to take a look at this previous topic so you can see some examples from other users.

In the meantime, I will put this topic in evidence so other users can pop in and share their settings and experiences with you.

Picture setting indeed! What about the smoky black bars that are always in the image? They appear mainly in two areas and are very pronounced on white scenes or scenes of one main colour. Solution? Not software that's for sure. What does someone do with a £2,000 top range tv with these bars? What solution am i to expect from Philips? Check out the other posts on 46PFL9706 or indeed other tv's with the 06 as part of their model.

Hi Calpe,
I would recommend anyway a software update, the picture performance was improved in a previous update.
Q555x_x.14.99.0 (Date published: 2012-07-17)
· Content from maxdome is distorted in autozoom on a 16:9 set.
· Set blocked when subtitle menu is opened and HbbTV is present.
· Videociety streaming is causing a TV crash.
· TV switches on with Perfect Natural Motion switched on by default. The
user has to switch off PNM each time if they don't want it.
· Improvement on picture performance.
You can find the latest software upgrade here
In the meantime please let me know if the issue occurs with every video source, like TV, DVD.
Regards,

Yes the smoky bands appear on the left & right. They are more noticable depending on the image. If its a white one you'll see the bands. This is clearly a display problem & not software related

With nothing connected and pressing the customer's 123654 you can see the bands. Therefore it's a clear indication that it's a display problem.
Why are Philips washing their hands of this problem?

@CALPE
You are experiencing Philips 9 series renowned Dirty Screen Effect - DSE. It is a hardware problem that Philips refuses to acknowledge and give owners any kind of solution. So learn to live with it or sell your TV.
