PFL6606H Issue

Hi all!

In my PFL6606H (FW Version: 000.014.099.00), under Pixel Plus HD Menu, I can see "CLEAR LCD" - On/Off menu. It should be "100 Hz CLEAR LCD", right?

Kindly let me know if this is normal or happened after firmware upgrade.

Also wanted to know, what is the use of MPEG ARTEFACT REDUCTION settings.

Thanks for your questions. I will try to answer them (quite technical I'm afraid).

CLEAR LCD:
We used indeed the terms "100/200/400 Hz Clear LCD" (which for 60 Hz countries was called 120/240/480 Hz Clear LCD).
For example, the term "400 Hz Clear LCD" was calculated as: nr. of frames per second + scanning backlight processing. Both were 200 Hz, so this resulted in the 400 Hz.
However, we've changed to another calculation method which is called PMR (Perfect Motion Rate). This term is calculated differently: "Panel + Scanning Backlight + Perfect Natural Motion + 2D dimming + ....". See pictures:


This meant that the 100/200/400 Hz Clear LCD term was no longer applicable with the "PMR" logo on the packing and the leaflets.
So the decision was made to accordingly rename the MENU feature to "Clear LCD", as that is always correct. And yes it is possible that this naming was changed with a SW upgrade. But this is only the name!

MPEG ARTEFACT REDUCTION:
The MPEG format is broadcasted in blocks of 16x16 pixels. Each block uses as many bits as necessary for its definition. So minimum for an even smooth white or coloured block, or maximum for a block with 16x16 different levels (which in practice does not exist) and thereby with a lot of movement in the image.
But the total bandwidth is limited, so if too many blocks contain that much definition, than the highest are avaraged. This can cause some artefacts, such as a pattern of (slightly visible) blocks in the image.
"MPEG Artefact reduction" will average the blocks among themselves, such that the block pattern is no longer visible. However at the expense of loosing some sharpness.
