    aw3000 not playing FLAC files

Can anybody help me. I recently bought a AW300 speaker and although it quite happily plays MP3 files from my media server it refuses to play any flac files.

I upgraded the firmware and it now shows in airstudio as V H4.31S.

In airstudio I select a flac file and it comes up with the playing screen, but when I press the 'play' button nothing happens, whereas if I select a MP3 encoded track it starts almost immediately..

    Hi SJT,

    Welcome on the forum!

I have some questions regarding the issue you mention here.

    1. Where you able to play the files before the upgrade ?
    2. What is your“my media server” ?
    3. If you are using a PC, what is the PC SW for streaming?
    3. If you use smart phone, what is the model ? And is the APP updated ?

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Kind regards,

    Hello.

    In answer to your quesions;
    1. N/A - The speaker is new and I upgraded it when initially setting up.
    2. See below
    3. N/A
    4. See below.

    The equipment I'm using is;
    Cocktailaudio X10 with Firmware V1665
Samsung Galaxy Tab2 (GT-P3110) with IceCreamSandwich
    aw3000/12 with Firmware H4.31S

I've done some more testing, this is what I've found.
Streaming MP3 from X10 to aw3000 works fine
Streaming FLAC from X10 to the Tablet works fine
Streaming FLAC from X10 to the aw3000 gives no error but just doesn't play
Streaming FLAC from the Tablet to aw3000 works fine

So the problem appears to be some sort of incompatability between the X10 and the aw3000 for FLAC files only.

    Regards, Simon.

Well this looks like your mediacenter then that causes the issue. If you use your tablet with Airstudio and it works then the answer is there.....

Thanks for the comments Oscar, but I don't quite agree with your conclusion.

It's the interoperability between my media server and the aw3000 that's the problem.

The android tablet seems to behave the best as it works as a renderer with the X10 as server, and as a server with the aw3000 as renderer.

    Hmm, interesting topic.
I'm always jellous my neighbours by new gadgets and I've the old stuff. Looks cool that thing.
So, I went to my neighbour and tested a bit.
FLAC streaming from Airstudio APP the AW3000 works fine (as you state).
FLAC streaming from Twonky V4.x to the AW3000 also works fine.
    So far so good ...

I don't have this Cocktail thing, but I did some simple study ...
In the webpage www.cocktailaudio.com/ there is no indication that this thing is uPnP / DLNA compliant.
(or at least not actively shown / promoted).

Anyhow, didn't give up - a simple Google query shows ...

    cocktailAudio : Firmware Downloadwww.cocktailaudio.com/firmware.html -
From here you can download firmware for X10. .... In the previous firmware, there was some problem in network sharing function in Window 7. We cleared this ...

    Hmm, sound fishy ...

    A query via ... http://www.dlna.org/consumer-home/lo...product-search, shows ...
"No result found" (neither for X10 nor Cocktail).

So, I would agree with Oscars earlier input, but describe differently.

Only uPnP or DLNA approved items will work together. THose which are cooked somewhere in a Garage, well, they may, may not work. It's like saying my Android phone is iOS compliant (= yeah it can somehow work togehter, e.g. Airplay, but no warranty, not on all phones).

Maybe you contact the Cocktail guys and ask for a firmware upgrade ...

(And yes, your tablet can work from it, as it might run a more lenient, less strict uPnP SW).

Further, in some forums you find reported issues with the X10 ...

    http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php...1345eb97deeaea

I also see quite some posts in various forums about tag incompatibilities, which is another hint for my Garage comment ...

Anyhow, welcome in the Club of DLNA / uPnP and interoperability issues ...

    (On both sides).
