I have the same problem with a 42PFL6008K TV.
YouTube app works, login works inside the app, but no video actually starts playing.
TV is updated to the latest firmware and I already did a reset of the TV.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.

    TV model number: 55PDL8908S/12
    Software version: 173.67.0

Philips assistance please help us, maybe is a bug and a new update of the software could be helpful.

    HI,
I have same problem with TV model 42PFL6008K/12.
I'm very disappointed from Philips support.
How i know all series with x008 have this big problem!
Not correct from Philips to not say when be an update for this issue.
So many costumers affected and silence from their side?
There is workaround to play YouTube videos.
I pair YouTube with androind phone and YouTube is working!
I disconnect phone, and still able to play videos with remote control.

Having the same issue on my Philips 47pfl6008.
I downgraded to earlier firmwares and nothing changed.
Tried 173.50 and 173.42. No change.
Then, still on 173.42, I decided to reinstall the TV, it killed the SmartTV portal completely.
Now I see an error "Server not found"
I will go back to latest firmware and reinstall there.
Perhaps you could reinstall as well and see if it help?
    I'll update...

    *****Update 30-Nov-16*****
Switching firmware didn't help, same issue. Now back on 173.067.
Talked to local support in Israel. According to support, some model stopped supporting YouTube but were reluctant or unable to provide a list.

A search on YouTube states that the app on our Smart TVs was written by PHILIPS for an old API which was changed.
Philips should write a new app with a new API and release it!!

    Come on PHILIPS!

    Update:
As of 14-Jan-17 the issue is solved for me.
I contacted Philips support and after give and take I was requested to reinstall TV and setting the country code to UK or Ireland. I chose UK and YouTube started playing.
I'm happy. The TV is smart again

It looks like is a problem related to the regional code or something like that
