40PFL8605H/12 Supported formats and codecs in detail please
I am a new philips user. Got a 8605 last week and tried it with my wd external hdd and flash disk. Played 4 avi files and a mkv. In all 5 of them, I had a sound delay issue which can be temporarily solved by pausing/playing the movie.
Support says I should check if the files are supported by my TV, but in TV Manual I could not find detailed explanation. I know that it supports AVI, MKV MPEG1 2 4, but I have no idea which Codecs does it support.
So I will check my files for codecs with MediaInfo program but first I have to know which codecs my TV support in detail.
Or if I paste mediainfo log here can you tell me if it is supported by my TV or not?

TY for fastest reply =)
So if I can find codecs in list, should I contact my philips support?
Or there can be other issues which may effect viewing experience?
(I have not upgraded the firmware yet for example)

I checked but could not "avi" codecs in "2010tv models xxpflxxx5" partLast edited by Dworgian; 08-17-2011 at 01:23 PM.

Indeed, Philips must have forgotten it. (I have the same TV as you)
BTW : yesterday I came across the very first avi that the TV wouldn't play: Elephants Dream
I think it's caused by the OpenDML profile. Maybe someone with more knowledge can confirm ?Code:Format : AVI Format/Info : Audio Video Interleave Format profile : OpenDML Format settings : rec File size : 815 MiB Duration : 10mn 53s Overall bit rate : 10.5 Mbps Writing application : AVI-Mux GUI 1.17.5, Apr 5 2006 18:41:17 Video ID : 0 Format : MPEG-4 Visual Codec ID : MP42 Codec ID/Info : Microsoft MPEG-4 v2 (pre-standard) Codec ID/Hint : Microsoft Duration : 10mn 53s Bit rate : 10.0 Mbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 24.000 fps Compression mode : Lossy Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.201 Stream size : 779 MiB (96%) Audio ID : 1 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Mode extension : CM (complete main) Codec ID : 2000 Duration : 10mn 53s Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 448 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Bit depth : 16 bits Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 34.9 MiB (4%) Alignment : Aligned on interleaves Interleave, duration : 64 ms (1.54 video frames) Interleave, preload duration : 192 ms Title : ED-CM-5.1-DVD-Final2

But in my case the file is played. only with a disturbing sound issue. I see people talking then hear what they say after 1 second or 2.

Someone from support team now told me that it could be fixed by setting "audio delay" option.
Will try that in a cpl days when I get back to my tv and update this topic :P
meanwhile I am ready to accept any other solution options

Good Morning,

I would have any suggestion to encode file from Mini DV sony Camcorder to H264/AVC;
Could someone help me?
I can work with Nero 10 (Not work with AVCHD transcode)
virtualdub; (H264 wit AVI container)
Super erightsoft (transcode with AVI container but not work on TV; not transcode (error) with MP4 container);
The next days I'll replace mini DV sony with Panasonic Camcorderder HD;
Someone is able to tell me if I'll watch the videos on Philips TV?

Philips TV and Twonky media server issue
If you are using a mediserver on your network disk (NAS) for example Twonky, the problem lies with that server configuration.
Everything worked fine after buying the TV in november 2010. I could play all formats, but could not RW or FF except for MP3.
I have an IOMEGA NAS 4TB network storage with Twonky on it 6.0.32. and a 32PFL8605H/12. The profile for Philips is not up to date on the Twonky Server. So, what need sto be done is that the Philips engineers contactTwonky to resolve this in the software.
After extensive talks with the supportdesk of Philips, they came up with the remark that I should look at specific .avi, .mkv. .mov formats and post them. The simple fact is that none of these are playable now through the mediabrowser of the TV. The issue lies with the profiles that Philips creates for their TV services in agreement with the software developers of media servers. Twonky is one of the most common media servers.....
I als requested Twonky to upgrade their Philips profile, which they have been promising for more than 6 month's now.
My guess is that Twonky and Philips are in negotiations about the price that Philips has to pay for such a software upgrade.
So, as long as Philips does not take into account the costs needed for software development for these kind of partners, their offer that the media browser works well with DLNA, is very limited.
