Problems with BDP 5180/5
Hi,
I have a BDP5180/5 Blu Ray player, it comes up with the message "unknown disc " when trying to play the following:
Prometheus ASIN: B005ZCHQKA
Sons of Anarchy Season 4 ASIN: B005ZC9SBU
No problems with any other discs.
I have upgraded firmware to v1.62 but issue still remains.

Hi Oscar, I had an online chat with one of the consumer care people, who suggested that as it was some specific discs (all recent from one company) and all others played fine that the issue was with a change in manufacturing by that company and I would have to wait for a software update to fix this.
How does having device chcked in serive work?

Hi, knowing from the threads here around the forum unknown disc is always service, there is a loader issue. If you send it to service also send a disc with it so they can check it.
Best contact your local call centre again

Oscar, thanks for your reply - however they have informed that Unknown Disc does not necessarily denote a loader issue (and it doesn't make sense that it would as this problem only occurs with two specific discs and only those discs).
As the problem only relates to two recent releases from the same company, they believe it is a compatability issue that will require a software upgrade to fix.
It would be great if someone from Philips could comment on this on the forum to clarify though!!
