    Angry PFL5507 new panel?

Is there a way to determine which panel (Sharp or Samsung) is used in the PFL5507 series?

Philips did a bad job in changing the panel without changing the model number!

Change of Philips panel on 40pfl5507k/12 model - which panel do we have?

I have just purchased the same TV. I decided for it on the basis of excellent reviews. BUT, then I learned that 5507's produced from summer onward carry Samsung and not Sharp panels, the later being much better according to most reviews. So, I am also trying to find out which panel my TV carries. The retailers had no idea what I am asking, so I would also use your help in this respect. Appart from the codes on the package there is one number which might refer to the date of assembling the TV in Hungary (06/1212)?

    Support is much appreciated.

I wrote an earlier post about this (http://www.supportforum.philips.com/...t-PFL55-series) and emailed the Dutch Philips customer service. To no avail.

What is known is that in the serial number the production week is hidden. I don't remember what all the numbers are for, but it starts like this: xxxx-12xx-xxxxxx
The 12 means 2012, the 2 numbers next to that is the production week.

I just purchased this TV and my supplier (Bol.com) was able to tell me the panel is a Samsung S-PVA panel. The bad one.. My TV is from week 29 and I notice one of the weaknesses of this panel in the clouding. I am not really satisfied with this clouding as there is quite a lot of it in darkness. Fortunately i don't watch TV in complete darkness a lot. When connected to my PC with an HDMI cable i also notice ghosting with thick black text on a white background when scrolling within an internet browser.

So the new panel is not really great with noticeable clouding in a dark room on black scenes with high contrast. The ghosting is only noticeable on my PC so i don't know if it's a flaw of the panel or bad settings on my PC. The tinny sound is not great either. Overall the TV performs nice though. Colours look nice and the contrast is great. Lots of software options as well. I really wanted the Sharp UV2A panel but couldn't find it. You will need to look for production weeks below 29, and even then you can't be sure what panel you have until you test the clouding.
