Call-Up: Petition for using Offline-Apps for 2009 models and newer

Hi,

beside the software problems related to HDMI-ARC and Easylink the Internet-EPG is one of the main trouble related problems. This is specially true because of the troublesome USB recording function. I request all users to support this request for using Offline-Apps.

What does it mean?
Philips TVs use the Opera browser. If I'm correct the user agent means that it is Opera Presto 2.5 (2009er / 2.6 for 2011). That one has already "W3C Widgets support".

What are the advantages for customers?
Using W3C Widgets would save the "App" of the SmartTV homepage as well as the IP-EPG on the TV itself. A connection to the internet would only be required for data transfer. The size of the transfered data would be smaller. Furthermore the TV doesn't have to connect to ecdinterface.philips.com first, than to nettv.corio.com to load the website "SmartTV" or "IP-EPG" each time it is accessed.

1. Instantly access the content on the SmartTV homepage and IP-EPG
2. SmartTV-Apps could be installed as W3C Widgets alternatively.
3. Data for the IP-EPG can be transfered and displayed faster
4. SmartTV even works if Philips shut down their servers

What are the advantages for Philips
The browser features are already implemented. They only need to be used. Switching the SmartTV portal would require more rescources than the IP-EPG. If the flash memory size is too small an SD storage or USB stick could be used. Their are no "technical reasons" to not implement this feature.

The initial development effort would result in a much higher usability and an increase in loyality in the brand of Philips/TVP.

When in doubt an alternate solution would be possible with UserJS and WebStorage whereas the API should be similar / identical to the W3C standard.

This sounds very good indeed.

The current SmartTV / EPG implementation on my 46pfl5507 is utterly slow so everything that would speed things up I encourage.
