BDP 5200 unable to read external hard drive
Hi,
I have a BDP 5200 to which I usually connect a 3.5" 1 TB Western Digital external hard drive via usb, to watch movies and listen to songs. It works fine, although a lot of times I cannot access folders - which are seen at first. The message I am given is 'No content'. These folders contain files that the player - CAN - read, such as mp3.
Now, the new problem is: yesterday I bought a new external hard drive. A 3.5" 3TB Western Digital MyBook, with USB 3.0 connector. Thing is: I connect the disc to the player, I turn it on, I turn on the player and...the player seems to recognize the disc, as the usb disc menu animation comes into motion, but when I try to access the disc...nothing happens. I can read on the player display USB but really nothing happens.
How can I solve both the problems?
Thank you and kind regards,
Giulio.

Hi All,
I tried to make smaller partitions, three of them, with this size more or less: 1TB 1TB 800GB but nothing to do, the BDP5200 does not read them.
I don't know what else to do
Giulio.
UPDATE:
Hi All,
I found the problem. As Kwinnie said, the BDP 5200 is not able to read disks bigger than 2TB in NTFS. Creating smaller partitions does not help because, by default, a disc so big is formatted using GPT partitioning - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc725671.aspx - which is not supported by the BDP 5200.
So in Windows 7, thru Control Panel ecc..., I changed the disc from GPT to MBR, thus losing almost 1TB of space. Like that the BDP 5200 was finally able to see the disk, althogh only 2TB instead of 3TB.
Now, let's hope Philips will update the 1.61 firmware to read GPT disks as well.
Hey Philips, do you hear that?

Hi,
it seems my last post has disappeared...
Anyway, the problem is that the BDP 5200 does not support GPT discs - see http://technet.microsoft.com/it-it/l...=ws.10%29.aspx
You have to use the disc in MBR mode, but in this case you are limited to 2TB of space and you lose what remains. It does not help to divide the disc in smaller partitions.
Kind regards,
Giulio.

Hi,
I can see your below message via email, but not here, dont know why.
If you are not intended to post it/ you have deleted it, pls let me know so that I can delete it for you.
For GPT/ MBR, I know for USB/ HDD, we only support MBR partition not GPT. Maybe it's the same for disc.

Hi kwinnie,
I don't know either. No they both appear. Anyway not a big issue. I can still plug the disc into the pc and stream it. By the way, can you reccomend me a good mediaserver to install on my laptop with Windows 7, in order to stream movies from the external disc, connected via usb to the computer, to my Philips tv?
Kind regards,
Giulio.

WMP is a free one but no guarantee to work; Twonky is a good one but you may hv to pay; Tversity is also a recommended one that quite many users from this forum are using.
