Shuffle not working anymore (SA1982A/82)

Hello,

I've been happily using my Gogear SA1982A/82 for a few years. It's a robust and realiable MP3 player.

I've almost filled my 8GB storage with songs. For the last three months this player has behaved erratically.

The shuffle function doesn't appear to work as it used to. Now songs play almost alphabetically, that is it will play the first five songs with letter A, then five songs starting with B, and so on. Hardly a shuffle to me.

Once it didn't even offer to shuffle again. I've reset the device to factory defaults a few times but after a while it will stop shuffling.

Is it possible that after a while the algorithm has been corrupted? Is it possible to reflash the device?

Any suggstions appreciated. Thanks

EDIT: I have discharged the device completely and recharged again and the problem has (at least for now disappeared).
