How to get rid of locked sound?

I can't hear my Songbird MP3 player louder than volume 10. When I try to increase the volume, it locks. How can I get rid of that?

The manual that came with the songbird is whimsy and doesn't explain a lot if anything.

The very inadequate attached guide says:

Phillips GoGear MP3 player SA3RGA02, SA3RGA04, SA3RG4008

Once I want to hear something louder than 10, it locks, by showing me a crossed out sign or loudspeaker. The scale goes up to 20 or so, but it blacks half way up.

Please advice. I have still warranty on the product, is there a technical support line that a customer can call?

Hi there again This is to comply with the A12 safety requirement on the portable products.

To unlock the volume 20 limit: 1. Switch on device. 2. Play any songs. 3. Press vol + till the level 20. 4. Press return button. Then you will see “long hours & high volume damage hearing” to pop up. 5. Press and hold the vol+ when see this message. 6. After 2 seconds, it will be back to the ‘now playing’ screen. 7. Press Vol+ again and if all goes well then you will be able to adjust volume over 20

Would this apply to the SA060?

I can't find any return button.

At the bottom of the volume slider I have a padlock. Presumably if I can get rid of the padlock the player would go louder (max isn't loud enough at present).

I have an SA3ARA08K, i don't know whether it will work for your one, but I'll tell you what I did:
Sound settings->SafeSound->SafeSound settings->Volume limit-> set the volume limit to maximum so when the option enables itself, you'll still be able to play it without limits.

Thanks for the help, but I don't have those options. When I go to Home then settings I just have the following:

Set Power-saving mode
Sleep timer
Display settings
Language
Information
Format device
Factory settings

Nothing about Safesound

usually it s either you have safesound control like wt wilma said or it's really the A12 thing.

(but A12 is a new amendment of EU standards which implemented just Jan 2013. Not sure if your SA060 has it or not)

If that is the A12 thing, try to press n hold the vol button when you see the lock sign.

Pop up on the player screen? Or am I missing something, am I looking at settings on the player itself, or on my PC?

I don't think the player has pop ups.

I'm really disappointed with the player. It was recommended as having clear sound, but unfortunately I can't tell if it's clear or not as I can't hear it.
