NP3900 freezes with some audio files
My NP3900 doesn't seem to like certain MP3 files -- with some MP3s it just hangs. This is repeatable, ie. it will always hang on the same files.
The issue seems to be with pictures embedded in the ID3 tag info. When playing a file with embedded pic, the device will hang. If I subsequently remove the picture, the file plays fine.
I'm on the latest firmware version, G5.59s
Please, Philips, fix your firmware so that it displays ID3 pics, or at least doesn't freeze when stumbling across one.

Hi !
Album Art works fine with my NP3900. Are your Album Art images extremely big ? That might be the cause of the problem, or if there are more than one Album Art image so the complete Album Art tag becomes very large.
Another possibility is that your tracks may contains some non-standard MP3 tag that is automatically cleaned up/removed by the software you use to get rid of the Album Art.
Finally, beware that MP3 tracks that have been downloaded from Amazon, or has been manipulated with iTunes may cause issues too.
Cheers !

Thanks Tias for you suggestion -- indeed the tool I used to strip the image (EasyTag) does some rewriting which makes the audio file more palatable to the NP3900, irrespective of whether there's an image present or not ( I saved the mp3 from EasyTag, including image, and it played fine; when looking at it with an hex editor I see some differences, eg. tags are written in a different order).
However I only saw the hangs when album art was present, so there's probably still a connection with the tags involved there.
So, I apologize for the allegiation that the Phillips firmware doesn't handle album art images at all -- and merely ask that it's more robust when doing so...Last edited by chrome___; 12-26-2012 at 10:01 PM.
